At the heart of Christ Day has always been a vision of the renewal of the nation, which begins with repentance and the purification of hearts and continues with the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, a strong foundation for every Christ Day process has been joint prayer that transcends denominational, congregational, and generational boundaries.

Christ Day 2027 is the fourth nationwide Christ Day process. Christ Day came to Finland from Switzerland in the 2000s under the leadership of Hannu Hatanpää, who was in his twenties at the time. The national Christ Day events in 2008 and 2017 gathered together nearly 10,000 people in Turku. The 2008 event brought intercessors from every municipality in Finland together for the first time ever. In addition, a larger national event was held in Tampere in 2010, and regional Christ Days have been celebrated from time to time in Eastern Finland, among other places.

The main organizers of Christ Day are Hengen Uudistus Kirkossamme ry, Kansan Raamattuseura, Mission Europe ja Suomen Ev. lut. Opiskelija- ja Koululaislähetys ry (IFES Finland). Christ Day invites all Christian organizations that subscribe to the Apostles’ Creed and wish to work toward a shared vision to become partners.

Event Tour and a Year of Prayer 2026

​

The Christ Day 2027 process consists primarily of two distinct parts. The Year of Prayer is taking place right now in 2026. During it different congregations, communities, and Christian networks establish prayer rooms, where uninterrupted prayer will be offered throughout the year in different locations. The goal is to fill every hour of the year with prayer for a spiritual awakening in Finland.

In addition, Christ Day includes an event tour from Easter to Pentecost in the spring of 2027. Interdenominational prayer events will be held at eight different university towns in collaboration with the national Christ Day organization and local churches and communities.

For Congregations

As a congregation, you can participate in three specific ways:

​

1. Share information about the year of prayer and the spring 2027 event tour during a prayer meeting or similar gathering. If you wish, you can invite a guest speaker from our team to encourage prayer and provide further details. You can also collect an offering for Christ Day during the event (details below).

 

2. Organize a Christ Day prayer room in your own community. Invite neighboring congregations to join and make sure to include people of all ages. In the prayer room, you could for example hold a children’s prayer time in collaboration with daycare centers and a prayer session led by the youth ministry.

 

3. Organize a joint trip to the Christ Day event in your region in the spring of 2027.
