The Vision and the Mission of the Christ Day

The Christ Day is not just an event; it's a process causing transformation.

The Mission of the Christ Day rises from biblical revelation:
When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2. Chron. 7:13-14, NIV)

The Mission of the Christ Day is:

To call Christians to prayer and foster spiritual transformation that penetrates the entire society and touches Finland, Europe and ultimately the entire World

The Vision of the Christ Day is:

Good news about Jesus from person to person to every home in Europe by the year 2020

This vision is an inspiriting milestone telling where we are heading and what we are praying for. Bible tells us that what is impossible for man, is possible for God. God-given vision, one that people cannot accomplish with mere human means and resources, glorifies the name of Christ.

To the Ends of the Earth

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8, NIV)

Courageous execution of the Great Commission and joint prayer of Christians are a possibility to kairos -time in Finland, Northern countries and the entire Europe. In the Christ Day process we have also upheld the Back to Jerusalem -aspect, taking the Gospel through the Europe towards Jerusalem.

The Strategy of Christ Day is:

To build a pioneering co-operative organ and network that carries out the Christ Day vision in the Power of the Holy Spirit in co-operation with the entire Body of Christ

Implementing this strategy is divided into five strategic areas:

1. Joint Prayer

The Christ Day has been from the beginning and continues to be a joint Christian's prayer movement. This joint prayer breaks prejudices and opens doors to spiritual renewal. Prayer is not against anyone, but is an opportunity to change.

2. Church of Communities

Especially Finnish Evangelical-Lutheran church (and many other traditional churches) is plagued by the lack of genuine spiritual communities. The Christ Day mission cannot be strongly executed without this dimension. Therefore renewal of Churches has to be an integral part of the goal of the Christ Day process.

3. Everyday Networks (Holistic Faith)

Christians must strengthen and nail their true colours to the mast. The Christ Day can connect Christians also in their everyday lives (at homes, workplaces, hobbies etc.), where networks of God's presence start to form and Christians start to play towards the same goal.

4. Gospel from Person to Person
The ultimate goal of the Christ Day process is to get the Gospel to spread from person to person to every home in Europe by the year 2020. As the other parts of the Christ Day process advance, also this one strengthens. In the context of Christ Day the spreading of Gospel is based on radical following of Christ (“Gospel as a way of life”). Spreading the Gospel from person to person is also supported by various campaigns.

5. Culture of Discipleship (Spiritual Parents/ Spiritual Mentoring)
Growing as a disciple of Christ is a complex process. Mutual Spiritual guidance is at the core of this process. It needs both encouragement and balanced models. Discipleship is the main content of the Great Commission so we need to put considerable load on it.

Renewing Networks

In the Christ Day in Tampere May 1st 2010 the emphasis is on joint prayer of all Christians and in the everyday life networks – of course also other areas of the vision have their place in Tampere.

In Tampere we will announce Life of Courage -training concept we hope will spread elsewhere in Finland in the coming years. The idea is to challenge Christians to be boldly disciples in their everyday lives. We think this will in the long run lead also into renewing networks, where the Gospel spreads from person to person, lighting more hearts as it goes.

The strategic areas of the Christ Day vision will be elaborated in the coming years for example in different empowering events, training sessions and campaigns. The goal is to strengthen the unity of the Christians over all dividing barriers and give form to renewing networks that penetrate the different sectors of society and revive also the traditional churches. The mission of the Christ Day is to “...foster spiritual transformation that penetrates the entire society...“

Generations Together

Alongside the Christ Day we are building a pioneering co-operative organ and network, with whom we will try to actualize the Christ Day vision in co-operation with the entire body of Christ. Also unity and co-operation over generations is vital. The young bring enthusiasm, innovation and movement – older bring in experience, wisdom and stability. Every generation is needed.

See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse. (Malachi 4:5-6, NIV)

The mission of every generation is to strengthen Christian faith, confession, heritage and tradition. Now is the time for this generation. The contents of the Gospel have not changed, but every generation needs to “find themselves” their own from for it. What is the way of this generation?

It is time to go forward with courage – learning from the old and creating new.
